Mission

Tradition meets modern well-being.

At HIKARI, we connect a fast-moving world to the quiet beauty of Japanese tea. Through superior quality teas, sustainable farming partnerships, and design-driven packaging, we offer moments of intention, presence, and light.

HIKARI is a Los Angeles based brand, founded in 2023 by Creative Director Julia Misaki.

Note from the Founder

As a child growing up in the mountains of Kumamoto, Japan, preparing tea was more than a daily ritual—it was an act of love. A quiet invitation to slow down and share a moment with another.

I was raised in a home where tea was sacred. My mother, a Urasenke Japanese tea master, passed down the rituals of the tea ceremony—lessons in presence, intention, and reverence. These practices became part of me.

Now living in Los Angeles, I was heartened to see matcha rising in popularity. But I quickly realized that much of what I encountered lacked the depth, quality, and cultural appreciation that Japanese tea truly deserves.

HIKARI is my connection to the meditative heart of the Japanese tea ceremony—a way to romanticize its quiet beauty for a modern audience craving depth and ritual in a fast-moving world.

We source from local, organic tea farmers in Japan who use generational techniques to cultivate some of the most exquisite teas from regions of prime terroir. Each harvest is a tribute to craftsmanship and care.

Hikari means light in Japanese—an essence we strive to reflect in everything we do. We hope you’ll join us, tea bowl in hand, as we continue this love letter to the timeless Zen ritual of Japanese tea.
